I've just put a 13 tooth on my KLX. Made a good difference, glad I did it. There was alot of confusion searching this forum in what was correct and what wasn't.
This is what I ordered....and it was available in the dealers catalog so I could return if need be....

This worked!

/Had the dealer install it, too many stories of that countershaft nut being hell to get off.

+1 on the nut hell. Air impact set on max!!! Motion Pro gear lock to hold the chain and sprocket tight so the impact doesn't just bounce the slack around

@maverick
one klx in my place use 48th kx250f rear sprocket.... good fit and nothing wrong happen...
I think you're making this a bit too hard. Rocky Mountain lists a 13-tooth countershaft sprocket for the KLX 09.

This thread has seemed as if it is INTENDED to be confusing!

Sail-A-Wai has stated that the spline is DIFFERENT on the '09 from the '07!! AND he says that he has one in his hand for proof.

It seems to me that the ones that should be responding to this request should be ONLY THOSE THAT HAVE AN '09 AND THAT HAVE ALSO personally INSTALLED A 13 TOOTH COUNTER SPROCKET!!

Now, for the issue of how hard it is to remove the nut. I have posted in an earlier thread that there is a nearly invisible special washer behind that nut!!! Now, listen up, YOU HAVE TO FLATTEN EVERY ONE OF THOSE RAISED AREAS, then the nut will come off with out using air tools or electric hammer wrenches. I know 'cause I did it myself in the dirt, with an audience!

Sorry, someone else asked a different question and we got off track.

As for removing the nut... IT IS NOT REVERSE-THREADED! Doesn't make any sense for it to be normal-threaded, but oh well, Kawasaki. The nut was on stupid-tight from the factory, and its only supposed to be in the 70s range of ft/lbs.

Ouch!

Helpful is what I was trying to be! I have an '07 (as stated in my signature), but that fact doesn't bear on the issue at hand, and by the way, you've misspelled sarcasm. )
I didn't intend for my comment to be interpreted as sarcasm. My apology is extended to any that saw my comment as such. By way of explanation, (if you will indulge me for a moment), I was attempting to make two points in my submission.

Point #1: Sail-A-Way stated that he has an '09, and had the CS #34213 part in hand, and the '09 is not the same spline as the '07. Therefore, it was the wrong part for his bike. Hence my suggestion that only '09 owners should offer help for the original poster, Sail-A-Way. ( I meant to suggest that owners of '09s who had personal experience, not paid to be done by a dealership, should offer him the help that he was asking for.)
Point #2 being: There were three comments made in this two page thread referencing how difficult the "NUT FROM HELL" was to remove. This comment about how difficult this nut was to remove has been raised a number of times in the past on this forum. Members have mentioned various, and numerous, ways that they have attempted to "jerry-rig" a work around to remove that nut. Bearing in mind that the factory recommended torque is 70 ft pounds, I studied that nut very carefully and noted that the 'invisible washer' behind that nut had multiple raised areas all around the nut. Emphasis was placed on my comment because so many, who are considered by me to be "Good Wrenches", had apparently overlooked my comments .... and some even wound up taking it into a dealership for the final solution! It comes off as a nut with 70 ft lbs torque should if you flatten all of the raised areas. I think that the factory uses this special washer because the threading of the spline is normal, not reverse, threaded.

My apology for the length of this response. I just thought it was necessary to clear up some unintended misunderstanding

Rocky Mountain ATV does NOT have the sprocket for the 2009 - I have called twice

The 2007 is the same spline but it has a raised collar that makes the nut not fit on the shaft (shaft too short) - I could grind the collar off but it might alter the hardening of the sprocket - any thoughts on screwing with the hardening if I grind it off ??

Rod, You are right. I need to chill. I get wound up when someone is looking for help and gets pounced on by some "superior" . Your post is NOT such a case. I read it and shot off my mouth ( well, fingers) in haste. I retract my rantings.
