Mainly I'm looking for more comfort on the highway for long rides. Do they work or waste of money? Any chance they help fuel economy on long rides? Any way to squeeze some range out of the tank is nice.
In all honesty I don't think bikes like ours really need large windshields, they have a useful 110km/h - 70mph cruise speed and I've never found that speed to be all that tiring when riding without a screen. Having said that after making my bike fit me better, bar risers and taller bars I noticed a little more windblast coming over the front number plate than I wanted. I ended up doing one of the modified garbage can screens. It does exactly what I want, allows me an easy 110/120 kmh cruise and is not in my way offroad. I'll attach a picture here.. I can take more photos if anyone is interested.

True, I've found on most days that 70 is no problem. Admittedly rinding pinned into a head wind at 65-70 can get old after a while. I usually mob around town and do short highway sprints but I also do long freeway from time to time and the windscreen has really made a difference. Its still no highway cruiser but I plan on doing some long trips this summer so what the hell, it was worth a shot.

Did you find that mod on youtube or something? I think I've seen that some where, its the side of the trash can, correct? It looks good, I like the height!

TCI is closing up shop, owners are retiring, so that option is going away. Not much else out there either. I picked up a replacement shield for my wife's bike out of their remaining stock a month or so ago, and I think that was their last one...

Just tried to find the TCI site, all the google links I followed went nowhere. Seems they already killed the website. Might be worth calling to see what's left, or if they're even still open.

We didn't get to see much of the KLR. I know you were riding it but maybe you could have switched rides for the sake of the video.

Here's how I installed my windshield. It's a stock KLR650 unit which I found on ebay for $20.

I drilled 3 holes in the front plastics, and 3 matching holes in the windshield. I then filed a slot from the bottom of the windshield to the bottom hole. The bottom bolt is simply sitting there as a pin. The Windshield interfaces with this pin via the filed slot. The top two bolts provide the main attachment points. Thus, I can quickly remove the windshield by removing these two bolts alone.

There is some foam added between the windshield and instrument cluster to keep the vibrations down. The factory rubber and velcro has been moved to the windshield as well. This seems to keep things clean and after about 5,000kms, it has worked well.

There's a ball compass glued into the original mounting arm hole on the right side. I'm on the lookout for a thermometer for the left.

NorCalKLX, what size are the bars on the KLX, 1" or 7/8th?

Or do the same clamps fit both? I see some of those screens on Ebay but they seem to come in various sizes and I'm not sure what the stock bars are sized at?

Correct, 7/8, I would have replied earlier but I don't get on here often anymore. I can try and post some pics if you need. It's just a 65 dollar Spitfire windscreen...I think it's SP-05 for my model and it comes with hardware. Hope that helps.

Crap, I had better go take measurements before I spout my mouth. I found it on Amazon for 58 bucks, it's a Slipstreamer S-06C Spitfire.
