"Tour de Apalachicola-II" January 12-15, 2007
Finger, as I said in my PM:
I didn't make any camp arrangements, so I think I need to tent camp...while I can fit everything on my other 2 bikes for camping (including a passenger), I can't fit it all on the KLX (), so I think we should drive so I can bring the tent, campstove and food, liquor (), and what have you. I'm gonna call U-haul tomorrow and get a rate. I'm going up Friday -- leave late morning probably? EDIT: Coming back Sat. night ([
]) due to big family gathering on Sunday early.
So what do u think?

Well guys im out of bed and starting to gather my stuff to go, and ill be outta here at noon... when i woke up this morning and looked out i saw that we had gotten a dusting of snow, so its all white up here, be nice to get to warm weather for a while.... See you all on the flip side....lol...... chris, talk to you late afternoon.

Well, this bad boy is coming right together real nice like.
Glad to hear that you are definitely going to be there Finger Mullet. I want to take a look at that kick starter up close. I wrote you a long response in your install thread about how great the mod was and how tight you mod report was, but somehow it got erased before I hit Submit. Anyway, looking forward to seeing it and meeting you.
I imagine Eric and I will be the first of the KLXers there. Probably the first of anyone there for that matter. He will be picking me up this evening and we will drive throught the night. I guess we will get there around 6am or so on Thursday. We will set up camp and catch a few Zs. At least I will. I don't think Eric is going to sleep for 5 days from the sounds of it.
I guess by noon time on Thursday we will be up and at it.
See you all there. Drive safely.

DAMMIT...didn't make it...went to pick up a trailer today, the lights weren't working right, was the (old) wiring harness on my truck. They wouldn't rent me the trailer (don't have one, didn't borrow one) in that condition. Spent MOST OF THE DAY jerking around with it, trying to find a replacement harness, rigged one in by splicing wires (noob idiot just shooting in the dark kind of) and NOTHING, no rear lights at all after that. As the sun set, ordered a harness and made an appt. next week for someone to help me fix it. Can't make it now b/c today was my only day to come, as I had to return Sat. night to Tampa. Gotta say DAMMIT one more time for good measure, so frustrated and disappointed!
Almost rode up there on the KLX after that, a long one it would have been, and a ****-burner, but opened liquor, unpacked the truck with all the goodies I was bringing up, and cursed a few times instead.
Okay got that out of my system, hope you guys had fun and take lots of pics and post 'em!
Peace out.

I ended up not taking as many pics as I had planned because my Pelican case decided to jettison itself at about 50mph going down a dirt road. Luckily Marty & co. were behind me and picked it up. No damage to contents (including my camera & Eric's), but I lost the ability to carry my camera after that. Anyway, Eric & others took loads of pics, so the site will fill up with pics in the next day or so.
The ride yesterday was the best. The whole trip was incredible, but yesterday's ride topped it all. We started with about 5 or 6 KLR650s, 1 KLR250,1 Super Sherpa, 1Suzuki DR125, 1 Yamaha XT350 and5 KLX250Ss. We had me (cwgoff), Eric (EMS_0525), Keith (klxstiffler), Owen (Finger Mullet), and Mike (sullydirt). Unfortunately, Marty could not join us because he had to go home early from the Tour 'cause he was not feeling well. Several other KLX250Ss went on another great ride at the same time. It was tough to choose between the two, but it sounds like both groups had a blast.
Our ride was some great single track through a pine forest, then a dirt highway ride over to another awesome single track section near a creek. Believe it or not, there was some pretty cool elevation changes available with lots and lots of rollercoaster whoopties (I don't know the right word for them, but if you have ridden on them, you know exactly what I am talking about. If you haven't, you're missing out, they are a blast!).
I will do a more thorough write-up of my TdA experience later, but the summary is that it was danged near perfect. Perfect weather. Great company. Great riding. Great food. Great knowledge available to help wrench on our bikes. Great everything.
My compliments to Marty for the invitation, for introducing us to a great bunch of KLR650 brothers (and one or two sisters), and for the technical help in riding and wrenching. Further compliments to Gerald (MXTrail) and his nephew Josh who put the whole show on for everyone.
For those of you who could not make it this year, I definitely suggest that you make plans for the next event. I don't know what the plans are between now and the Fall, but I am sure that at least there will be the Tour de Pisgah in the Fall. I hope to see you all there. Ride safe!
Here are a few pics:
I'm in the little tent, my friend Dario brought his own condo:

May not be roomy, but plenty comfy for me:

That's Chris and Eric's tents in the background:

The KLX line-up with Chris and Keith:

Unfortunately, Owen (Finger Mullet) wasn't here yet:

Chris looks ready to ride:

Let's go already:

Last chance for gas:

Sunday morning we rode some great single track, here we are waiting for others to catch up:

That's all for now, nice to meet everyone. I hope we can do something like this again soon.
