The black plastic HIN tag's last two digit should show either 89 or 90 if you think it is either 1989 or 1990 model. They are mechanically the same - just different C&G. The only problem that I am aware of on this model is to make sure there is no fuel leak inside the engine compartment. If you smell or see gas there, check it out carefully. You don't want to experience unnecessary bang when you press the green start button.

I'm new owner of a used 96' model 900 xzi. I've been told that they need to be flushed out after every use. To clean the trash out of the ski from the lake. My question is where do you do this and how????

Flushing...
Yes, it is a good idea to flush out the engine even if you were just riding in a fresh water lake, because debris, trash & sand could be remained inside the cooling path. Where to hook up? On your 900, look at the top of the exhaust manifold. There should be a L shaped brass fitting with black rubber cap. That's where you hook up your garden hose end - you will need an adapter though. Make sure you start the engine first, then turn on the hose water about only 1/2 turn to prevent flooding inside the engine.
