Vacuum leak. check the vac lines running to the airbox.. bet ones off.. usually in the Kleen air system or float pressure air line.

welcome to KF!

and now for an explaination as to why i say this. cuz i'm bored

at W.O.T., intake velocities are approximately 120MPH, therefore, at such speed, the ram air starts to create positive air pressure on the carbs and airbox. a vac line leak will pressurize the float bowls unevenly in the carbs and result in a lean condition. bet ya dollars to dounuts it backfires like a MF'er when you're at speed, and it stumbles a bit at moderate-speed heavy acceleration? (around 60-90mph, 5th and 6th gear roll-ons..)
