Bike wouldn't start, any thoughts?
Yesterday I had a problem getting my bike started. I started it up, no problem. Took it to the gas station and filled it up. After riding about 12 miles I stopped for a few minutes. When I tried to start the bike back up I couldn't get it started. It would crank but not catch. Tried playing with the choke and throttle but no luck. Eventually I ran out of juice, fortunately some fellow riders happened by and offered to help me pop start it. Managed to get it going on the second try. I stopped a few more times over the course of the day and didn't have any more problems getting it started. Anyone want to venture a guess as to why it wouldn't start? The only thing that occurred to me is that I remember reading that it is not a good idea to fill the tank all the way as fuel can get into a vent hose in the tank and cause difficulty starting, could this be the case? I did fill it pretty close to the top. Any help is much appreciated, don't want to get stuck again.
assuming you have a 92 vulcan 750.. lol.. i'd say hmm.. not sure how the cruisers are set up, but the crotchrockets are notorious for the 6V lead coming off or the resistor burning up. the 6V feed powers an anti theft circuit in the CDI. if theres no 6V feed, the CDI won't fire. i can assume that your bike has the same setup, electrically..
next time it does it, (or if it still is) play withthe wires around the keyswitch and see if she generates spark..
keep us posted nd we can go from there.
good luck and welcome to KF!!
