suggested maintenance at 12,000 miles
well...
Oil & Filter is a given.(every 4,000)
Air Filter replacement (you only get 3 cleanings before the element deteriorates)
Brake Fluid (at least every year, minimum) should be replaced every other oil change
Spark Plugs (the high RPM and constant firing, the electrode burns off) every 12K is good
Drive Chain (By now the rollers are shot and stretched (even for easy riding)
Grease the rear shock linkage (it gets zero attention regularly anyway)
Fork Oil (rule of thumb: every 12K) it breaks down like any other oil does
I'm almost sure you can download and view that kinda stuff on Kawasaki website. there's a "my bike" section that will give you info based on the VIN # (required to access)

[QUOTE][guy their said the screws on the carbs were all the way in, does anyone know why the previous owner would do such a thing? thx
/QUOTE]
Your manual will explain that in the carburated section.

Probably to rich up the mixture. Does it have an aftermarket exhaust?
When you install a jet kit (usually stage 3), the instructions tell you what to do. And sometimes the air screws are closed, dependant on the needle clip position.

Not if it already ran just fine...
If a mechanic said they were closed, did he do anything?
If he adjusted 'em to stock, and there's a problem, guess who's gonna fix it??
If he was just informing you without adjustment, and it runs, **** it. Leave it be...

no the bike doesn't have a jet kit i wish, and yes the mechanic did adjust them but i dont believe to spec the guy i go to races bikes and ive told him im ordering exhaust so idk but i think it feels better. i know this is kinda off topic but whats a good website for basic maintenance parts like spark plug wires and hoses fans chains and such or is the best thing just OEM
Oil and filter change every 12 months is essential irrespective of mileage.
Check the owners guide for the rest, but at eight years and 12,000 miles riding it will do it more good than anything else.
Screws on the carbs only affect the idle and very low throttle. Their effect becomes insignificant as the throttle is opened wider.
Brake fluid should be good for two years unless the bike's kept in a sauna. Yours needs changing, I'm guessing. I'd be tempted to do a full clean and lube job on everything that moves. Check the brake calipers are free on their mounts and the pistons don't stick. Check fork oil and check that the seals are good. Look for any signs of leaking from the rear shock. Check the carb synchronisation, head bearings, swing arm bushes - anything that can deteriorate with time. Lube everything that moves - stand, footpegs, levers, cables, gear shift linkage, etc.
Very low mileage bikes tend to be either over maintained by amateurs who do more harm than good, or they tend to be neglected. I don't like them.
Stock jetting is correct for stock exhaust and air filter. It's only when you start to change these that the jetting needs to be altered to suit, but the jets can get gummed up on little used bikes. Usual sign is a reluctance to rev clean when the bkes off load.
