2003 mean streak problems
I am the new owner of a 2003 mean streak. Great bike.
The problem is with low speed performance. You can't run along at low speed unless the engine is about 2700 rpm or more. Less than that it falls on it's face. It has had things changed on it. Vance & hines exhaust, hypercharger, and a power commander III control modual. I know nothing about how to operate the power command. It has dark plugs like they are rich.
Probably a trip to the shop in order but any ideas are welcome. Also info on the power command is welcome as well.
Thanks.

Sound like the power commander is outta wack, but that's not my 1st choice
1st off: having a hypercharger means the filter get crudded up faster than if just an airbox, because of the exposed area. Meaning clean more often. Probably about every tank or so. I realize it looks cool, but truth be told, you gain like 1 or 2 horsepower.
(And I'm still waiting for somebody to tell me what 1 or 2 HP really feels like in a normal riding condition!!!!) Think of it like a nipple piercing. It looks cool, but doesn't do much for performance, in everyday situations.
Also, the flapper on the front is vacuum operated. I've seen that small vacuum hose fall off or even melt from improper routing thru the motor.
So:
-clean the air filter more often.
-check the vacuum line for the flapper.
-watch the power commander when it idles. If it lites up, its working. If not, check connections.
Chrome won't get ya home......

Thanks for the info. I found how to map the commander. It has a map that should be correct for my set-up.
Checked the filter and is is good to go. No hose problems that I can find.
She starts great runs great as long as yopur in the throtle above about 2600-2700 rpm. Below that it surges and falls on it's face. Could the injectors need cleaned? It seems to run rich at idle and the plugs were sooty.
2003 meanie, FI 1500.
