Ninja 500r Trouble Starting
Hey, I had a question about my 06 500r. I put it up for storage a few months ago for the winter and an overseas trip for about 3 months. I ran stabil in the tank, drained the carburetor, and removed the battery but did not use a battery tender or trickle charger. I came back from work today to finally go for a ride after replacing the battery (the fuse with wires had trouble getting on the bike, I noticed, almost straining the far thin metal attaching point) and priming the fuel for a few minutes only to get trouble.
After my first attempt, I added some choke only to get nothing but normal engine whirring to try to start up, then I added some throttle to try and help fill the carb up (not completely sure that was the best thing to do). Shortly after, I re-inspected the battery connections and all seemed fine, the horn worked along with the dash lights. I tried several more times, trying a little longer each time and eventually (after the 3rd attempt each time I inserted the key) got a loud buzzing noise near the fuse box on the battery. It buzzed twice in short sucession with the dash lights dimming and then stopped trying to turn over.
What else can I try? Is the batter just dead, or is that fuse box with the wires connected wrong (due to difficulty putting it on)? I'd appreciate and help or suggestions anyone has, I'd really enjoy getting out while the sun is out and about here in Washington! Thanks in advance.

@ IDRIDR I do have an old 98 Toyota Tacoma I can hook up to the bike while turned off, but I haven't jumped a bike with a truck before and heard it can damage the electrical parts of the bike. I'll give it a shot tomorow AM and see if that indicates the battery.

That's why you want to leave the Tacoma off. The alternator can overpower the bike's system. But a battery rated at the same voltage as the bike's voltage should pose no problem.
On a side note, we left my truck's headlights on during a ride and when we got back to the truck the battery was dead. We used the KLX to charge the truck battery enough to get it started.
