Default 02 zx6r having trouble starting

hi all,

i have a 02 zx6r and over the last week i have been having trouble getting it started in the mornings. i will crank it for 4-5 seconds about 8-9 times before it finally fires up.

generally in the past i just give it a tiny bit of throttle and hit the starter and it fires within a second, now it takes several minutes. i feel like im hurting the bike running the starter this much.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
russell

Shouldn't need to give it any throttle when it's cold. Are you using the choke or not? Plugs may be fouled, battery not holding enough of a charge. I'd check the plugs and battery.

2002.....does not usea enrichner circuit on the carb, bc its fuel injected, their for it doesnt have a choke,

I've got the Haynes manual for the 95 to 02 models of zx6r (zx600 and zx636). Unless the manual lied to me, it's carb'ed.

I have to use the choke when it is cold outside, but not in the warm weather. Once in a while it seems to take a little longer to start though. How long did you have to crank it?
