Does it crank, but not fire? Or no crank at all?

^ +1, and is the fuel on? Did you happen to hit the kill switch by accident?

Welcome to KF and good luck.

I would not assume the worst.....yet. Might be something as simple as gas getting into cylinders/crankcase due to faulty petcock; leaving in "prime" position, or weird overflow. Had a Suzook do this with an aftermarket petcock, once. Flooded the crankcase with fuel.
I'd suggest changing the oil, pull a spark plug or two and manually turn the crank to check for binding/noise, check your clutch pack, and basically make sure "systems" (i.e. charging/starter, compression/c-case, clutch, driveline, etc.) are individually intact. Reassemble and re-connect. Report back to us; glad to help.

i did as you said and manually turned the engine over, it turned over pretty easily without any binding and so it tried to start it again an walah it fires rite up. now i just need to check the carbs? could it be the needle valves leaking causing the flooding of the cylinders? anyone have a manual available for sale?

There is a pdf EN450 manual and a EX500 supplemental online. I prefer using hard copies personally. I think that I got mine from ebay
