DIY Paintjob or Order new plastics?
I've been debating if I should paint my bike myself, have a pro do it, or order a whole new set of painted fairings.
DIY - Probably cost around 250 and I will screw it up several times
Pro - Costs 500-700 and I will be without a bike for a while. I'm a daily rider
Plastics - I'm kind of skeptical about spending $500 on something on ebay like a whole new set of plastics. Has anyone done this? It seems too good to be true.
I'm look at these on EBay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fairing-for-...90489568719%26

You might want to consider doing a wrap, that's what I did and it's holding up great. You can do one yourself for $100-$200. Here's a link to mine.

The only thing that worries me about a wrap is that it seems quite permanent, and taking it off without damaging the plastic seems unlikely. I've actually been looking into painting it with plasti-dip. I've seen some really interesting things about it online and never many cons at all. Thanks for your input!

No, wraps peel right off with the help of a heat gun. I had a wrap on my trailer and took it off to sell it over the summer and had no problems. It was on for 10 years. Check out Fellers.com they have a lot of pre-designed wraps and colors.

Lol im a noobie both to bikes & this site. So there's few posts i can actually give my 2 cents based on personal experience.
Anyways i had to replace all my fairings due to an accident. I bought a $500/$600 set off Ebay & bought paint at a local shop. (Another $200.ish)
THE GOOD:
The fairings fit almost perfectly. The front fairing fought me a little, but that may have been due to the sub frame being bent slightly. They also came already primed & rdy for painting. I had a friend paint them for me. He went to school for auto body work & had a spray gun (& everything else needed to use it) in his garage. The bikes turned out great IMO.
THE BAD:
The fairings are thinner then OE, more flimsy. But once bolted on the bike, you'd never know. They also didn't have that heat/sound dampening foam on them. So i bought some DYNAMAT DYNALINER 1/4" cut it to size/shape & stuck it on.
The paint job would have turned out better if I had it done professionally (but i was working on a budget). Not so much that the paint its self looks bad, just i tried putting a silver stripe through it & it didnt turn out symetrical. But i guess it adds charater to the bike.
The BOttom Line:
If i had to do it again...I'd probable bight the bullet and get OE fairings. They just fit slighty better but more importiantly, because they are better quality (better plastic material & not as flimsy) they'd stand a better change of surviving a fall. Idk how my Ebay fairings would do if i hit the ground again. Even from a 10mph fall... But the painting i'd do again. It was fun & i know now what i'd do differently to make it look even better.
