Default Boring 84Kx250 Cylinder

Hi, so heres the deal, about 2 years ago i bought a 84kx250 as my first dirt bike (dumb idea, it threw me off more times that i care to remember)

anyways this last summer i started to get alot of blow-by, and was getting bad compression when i checked it, so the other night i pulled my bike apart to see what the deal was, it turns the cylinder is scored, and the piston is pretty fu**ed, anyways i asked my buddy about boring it (.5 mm) , and he said I couldn't unless I got it replated, is there any truth to this, he recommended a place, but he said it will be like $150-$200, also I was wondering if anyone knew a place where I could pick up a clutch rebuild kit (with all 13- i think its 13-plates and springs) I found a Barnett one for like $150 but that seems like overkill

The 1984 D1 KX250 has the "Electo Fusion" cylinder similar to all of the other KDX or KX's during that era. I got a quote (with me supplying the piston and rings) of $185 plus shipping. Any boring would be an additional $30 for my '85 KDX 80. That was through US Chrome.

(dumb idea, it threw me off more times that i care to remember)
hahaha, heck, that never happens!

I have had good luck actually using the oem/stock assemblies normally. Have you checked the lever/cable adjustments first? There are 7 friction plates and 6 steel plates for this ride.

Ive tried adjusting it, when i cracked my motor open, and inspected the clutch, i found the friction plates were worn almost smooth, and well out of tolerance, so I ordered a new clutch, also it turns out i was able to have the cylinder honed and that took care of the scratches, (from what I was told kx250's have tough cylinder's)

Thumbs up rebore on cylinder

he check out wisco performance they were the best back when . they would have the piston and ring set to oversize your cylinder you would have to take it to a machine shop to do the boring and hone work then a new gasket and assemble is it take care
