Those batteries don't hold a long charge, so if you fire it up and turn it off quickly, it will not have a chance to charge. Usually a 30 minute ride will get it up to full. Lots of shorter rides will only drain it. In college a buddy rode his XL100S up the stairs ti the apartment. That was kinda cool to watch

ok so it does charge while riding. good. ill have to go charge it today

hahaha, why else would the extra 2lbs or so for a generator be for on a bike? weight distribution? messin with ya
