Another thought, check the diaphrams for the air cut-out valve on the carburators (you have totake the rack apart to get them) if the diaphram is damaged, the bike is in a constant state of deceleration.

how can I find out what coils I can swap in to test functionality since it's practically impossible to stop the bike quick enough to test while hot.... any advice on this would probably solve my issue...
ok... so don't ask me how but... I was getting more than the specified gap jump when the bike ran but now that it's running way worse than ever now.. even cold... 2 spark plug caps don't register on my meter for resistance... two others do correctly... my primary coil max is also spec'd between 1.8 and 2.8 and I'm getting 2.9 and 3.0 on both...
first thing I'm doing is replacing all wires from coil to plug and I'll go from there... but do you all think that my primary is out of spec at such a small margin ?
If I can find alternate cap and wires at the same spec I would assume I could use those right ??? my friend's tl 1000 is sitting in my garage and I'm itching to try them for the hell of it... what do you all think ?

if you have access to some same spec'd caps etc ........I would try them .Sometimes they can be pretty difficult to trouble shoot with a meter . Some of them you can only tell by trying a known good one .I have seen some with readings so small that certain meters will not catch them
Can I really just run any coils in my 92 zx7 ? Is anyone else doing that ?
What do I need to confirm spec wise before I just throw in another set of coils ?
I need to understand this before I jump ahead and damage my electrical system....

I woudnt put anything on there without knowing the specs on it . In some cases the info is printed on the coil itself but time may have erased it off of yours . Not sure where you can find that info . Have ya looked in the ZX7 section on this ? maybe someone there might be able to burn you a copy of a manual .
i have the manual.. that's how I know the caps were out of spec... and I know the coil specs.. but I have no idea what coils may fit that are readily available or cheaper ...
