Default 98 ninja won't start

I tried starting my bike and it wouldn't start then my battery died. Changed the battery and rode it a couple times and now it won't start. What could be the problem. It sputters but it wont start. It also backfires a few time when I try to start it. Please help. Thanks

Sounds like it might either be flooding out, or could have dirty jets.

When you try starting your bike, never roll on the throttle, only use the choke if necessary. Using throttle upon startup is an easy way to flood the engine.

If your jets are dirty, it will be impossible to make the engine run right.

Obviously there is a wide range of variables that could cause your one problem, but the carbs tend to be the culprit more often than not.

You know what, I think you might be right. I usually roll the throttle when I start and I also use the choke. Would this be an easy problem to fix, could I do it myself?
