I have an 05 Brute Force 750 that is having some idling issues. I have owned the bike since new, it has no mods on it. The only thing that has been done is the carb needle recall when it was new. The bike has been ridden hard but has sat quite a bit for the last two years, with occasional starting. Due to the large amount of snow here in the northeast this year it saw a lot of action. The problem I am having is the bike will not idle. It will only run with the choke on and backfires constantly. I changed the plugs but it just keeps fouling them. It starts ok and ran well enough to push snow but needs to be fixed and i am not sure where to start with it? Does anyone have suggestions? I am pretty sure it is a carb issue but want to get some feedback to see if anyone else has dealt with this.

I would drain the bowls and check for water and sediment. (never played with a brute force). Good luck

 

+1^ Drag. Start easy; drain the gas out of everything and start fresh. If that doesn't do it (and it may not,) you'll need to pull the carb(s) and manually clean the little holes in the jets and needles.
