Default ZZR troubles

Hey all,

Just wanted to ask advice on some trouble I had with my bike last night.

Did the usual when starting the bike, turned on the electrics and put the choke about ¾ on and pressed the start button.
Made the usual starting noise then about half a second of it trying to start (normally takes about 1 ½ to 2 seconds to start in the cold) it made a popping/crack noise and stopped trying to kick over. I then noticed there was some oil on the ground under my bike (near and around the kick stand).

Took about 5mins to get it started, eventually getting it started by using full choke and pulling back on the throttle to get it started. Though the first few times it wouldn’t even kick over at all. Left it a minute or two between tries and I seemed to be getting somewhere until it finally started.

After I got home (taking it nice and easy) I checked the oil, there isn’t much being registered on the indicator now.

Leaving the bike in the garage and taking the train to work (public transport is soo not fun)! I plan on pulling the bike apart over the weekend and see if I can find out whats going on. Any ideas on what I should be looking for?

Also does anyone know where I can get a service manual from? Do you know if Auto1 or Repco etc would have one?

Cheers,
Daz

Ouch on the oil and the bike behaviour. I think there is a zzr600 manual in here, https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=19450 . Good luck and welcome to KF.

the crack-pop may have been the starter stripping a tooth or teeth off the ring gear. I had to replace mine last year because the starter removed about 8 teeth from the gear.
