This weekend I wasbribed by one of my friends into going on a poker run with a poo-pile of HD riders (there were some metric cruisers) in Sarasota.I didn't really want to go, but he said he would pay for my gas, and lunch, so who am I to argue with that. This was my first poker run. Apparently it was for a guy who had been in an accident, and needed money to pay his families bills. The cost was 10 dollars per hand of five-card stud. One card at the sign up, and one at four stops. Each one of the stops was at a bar, and at the bar there was copious amounts of drinking (not by me, or my buddy) after which they would get back on, and go to the next stop.(We did about280 miles.) These guys weren't going slow we hit 100 at least twice down back country roads.I will say that no one harassed me, or talked trash at my bike, and after they knew that I paid money for someone I didn't know, or knew nothing about they were actually nice to me. The only bad thing was there were a few guys, and gals drinking way too much, and riding on like it was cool. I did get annoyed with the mantra of: "WHO HAS MORE FUN THAN SCOOTER TRASH?" answered by: " MORE SCOOTER TRASH". There was a guy at one of the bars that had the best collection of vintage Kawasaki patches I've ever seen. The funniest thing that happened was wile I was in the bathroom which was a military style trough, a guy came in and said " My wife is the girls, watch this", the man pounded on the wall hard enough to make the trough shake, and yelled " Hay baby, you bakin' me a tray of brownies in there". I almost fell down I was laughing so hard. There was much yelling, and many F- bombs weredirected at him through the wall. All in all it wasn't a bad experience, but there will be more that gas, and lunch involved to get me to go again. I really didn't like all the drinking going on.

 

280 miles is a good poker run. You can pick or choose who you will run with, or go solo. But it is all fun.

 

i was suppose to go on a poker run for a infant that had some type of bone desease or someting like that, but i never go to go. I cant even fathom why someone would even drink while riding. Morons

 

I agree with you FN. I know plenty of people that do it and wonder why? Glad that you had fun though shino.

 

I was quite surprised. I thought the HD guys would be stand-offish, but they were OK. I am amazed the at the amounts of beer some of these guys could drink and walk let alone ride. There was a guy who was walking around with three beers, drank them, and got more at the same stop. He drank like 5 beers, and got on his ride. They did do some outlaw sh*t like "road guarding" which is blocking traffic, so the group can stay together stop lights, 4 way stops, it didn't matter, which is illegal.

 

Poker runs are a blast!!!!!I've been on a lot of them over the years and what a blast.I've also earned alot of respect from the HD riders in the process.The best ones are the full payouts.A couple freinds of mine have won them and we ride rockets.
1 freind of mine won over $1400 and the next year 2 freinds of mine won 1st and 2nd($1450 & $350)
I think they kinda hated us for rit though?Don't hate all HD riders.The real riders will always talk to ya!!!!

 

No money won in my poker runs so far. The name of the game is to have fun and ride.
