Default rear tire plug

I have a 06 meanany with verly 600 miles and found a nail on my rear tire.
I did patch it with a mashrom tipe of plug to get it home.
Do I have to purchase A new tire? or can I ride for a while with this patch.
Thanks for the info.

Great topic, this will start some controversy for sure.

When I used to commute and that means no hard canyon or track ridding I used to patch my flats with a Mushroom style patch that had to be installed from the inside out. Of course this meant un-mounting the tire. I never had any problem.

35.00 for patch or 180 for new rear. Back then I was using Dunlop 208's.

If you ride hard and push your bike I would not recommend it.
Hey even if you're running down the freeway and you get a slow leak you will feel it before any problem occurs.

OK THIS IS JMO I dont agree with Notstock on this one. Its more of a personal difference than anything i cant back it up with any cold hard facts.

I would never ever plug a bike tire. EVER I would leave the plugs for a 4 wheeled vehicle. To much of a chance to take on a 2 wheel vehicle. You have a way better chance of controling a car if the tire blows, but on a bike even at 40 mph you could have some major problems.

This is just my personal opinion. I would never do it!!!!!! wait wait i would if i was on a trip and got a flat, but i would only run it till i got home or to a bike shop. thats about it.

I would not run a plug or patch in my bike... If a patch is installed, it takes the speed rating of that tire down to 108 mph. You can also run the risk of tire seperation. If air leaks at all between the carcauses of the tire, then it would not be good. That might never happen, and it is a chance that you can take on a 4 wheeler, ( car ) , but it is not worth the chance on 2 wheels.

This info comes from the RMA and the manufacturer of the tires.

If you would like some links, let me get to work in the morn, and I can post them up for ya.

If money is tight, and you are just putting around town, you will prob be okay. But, if you want to hit the highway, with the extra heat build up and extra air inflation, then it is time to change the tire.

BTW, that's a nice bike you chose...
