Well I picked up a 2005 Ninja 250 Demo Model with 194 miles on it. Paid $2400.00 I think I got a pretty good deal. There was one problem the right side metal braket that the brake cylinder and foot peg bolt on to , busted when I got about 2 miles from the dealer. Had to take it back and now I have to wait for the new part to get here Tuesday before I can ride again. I also picked up a good helmet set of gloves and a riding mesh jacket. The bike is blue not my first choice but my second....

Good thing you went to a 250. Pardon me if I'm wrong but the difference between a 250 and a 600 or 636 is more than enough for a new rider to get in trouble with. The handling isn't as forgiving as the 250's. Understandably a lot of you have been riding for a fair amount but not everyone's riding skill is up to par for the 600/636 so IMHO these bikes shouldn't be recommended for new riders. If you think you will "outgrow" a 250 and you're a beginner then your skills are far superior to any noob out there and you should be on the track racing pro. As far as power is concerned, as an analogy to car driving, do you want to give the power of an F1 racer to a noob or give them the regular street car to start off with and learn handling and precision control that way? What fun would it be to ride a fast motorcycle slow because your skills are not up to the bike's potential? At the least you can put on some miles on that 250 and rack up some experience then sell it. These 250's sell quick as someone's always looking for a starter bike and you can sell it close to what you paid for it (plus you got to use it) then use that money to trade up to something bigger if you feel like it.
Just to clarify, this is not a flame against anyone, just a plea to everyone out there to be very careful in what vehicle you would recommend to riders starting out. Just my 2 cents.

Hey Toddrvs.. Well that was a dilemma I had when I bought my wifes
1st bike.. I bought her a Suzuki GS500 not thinking that she had
learned on my Suzuki SV1000S she had her GS for 1 month and was
throwing it around like a pro !!! So we traded it in on a Suzuki SV650s
and still has it today and loves it.... Best thing you can do is look at the
bike that appeals to you... Looks,comfort,style,preformace and longevity
Do go with what you like not what other people want you to have !!!!!!
