WOLCOTT, Conn. -- Two people were critically injured when an airborne car slammed into a motorcycle in Wolcott on Sunday afternoon.
Wolcott police said that Rodrick Boutote, 56, and his wife, Merlude, 51, were exiting the Cumberland Farms gas station on Wolcott Road on a motorcycle when a car driven by a Quinnipiac University student struck them.
Police said Edward Sitarski, 21, of New Jersey, was driving a Ford Taurus southbound on the roadway when he went off the right side of the road, striking a curb. Police said the car went airborne before hitting the side of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Both Rodrick Boutote and Merlude Boutote were transported to St. Mary's Hospital. They were listed in critical condition on Sunday evening.
Sitarski was transported to St. Mary's with minor injuries.
Police said Sitarski was driving at excessive speeds at the time of the crash.
This was last August but I thought I'd post it because this took place right down the road from me, and I know exactly how bad that turn can be. If you don't catch the chance in traffic at the right time, this kind of thing can happen many times a day. I saw the aftermath of motorcycle pieces on the sides of the road too.
