Hey,

I just recently bought a kz170ltd and I love it to death. I had a friend suggest that I add a single (sprocket?), well something, to the engine in order to lower the rpm when I am on the freeway. Right now it gets a little bit above 6000, which he thought was considerably too high. He said that by adding one in the front, it equals three in the back.

Does anyone know what I am talking about? I just cannot come up with the word. Thanks so much,

Matt

Yep 1 on the front is equal to 3 on the back. A bigger front sprocket on the front to say a 14, 15, or 16 will let you cruise down the road nicely. But you will lose low end grunt. Its all a matter of what you want to do. Oh and welcome to the forums.

Wow, thank you so much for the quick reply. I intend to use the bike for commuting to school daily this summer, which involves the freeway for about 40 minutes. Which size will provide me with the best fuel efficiency, while still allowing me my fun? And is this something I could change myself?

Thanks a bunch,

Matt

What are the sprockets right now? Dropping the front down one will likely drop the rpm's by approximately 500. It's really easy to do, take the chain apart, get a fat friend to sit on the bike and have it in gear while pushing down on the rear brake, 2 ft cheater pipe with the socket on the nut and break it lose.
