Default DFI and/or Carb

Hello, I am wondering about a buddy of mine's Kawasaki Vulcan 1500. He has a pull choke, so I automatically assumed it had a carburator. He corrected me and said it was fuel injected. If so, why is there a choke?

Thanks,

Welcome to KF

VN1500 depending on the year uses a keihin CVK 36 or the CVK 40. Carbed

edit: To verify that he can look in his service manual or check out his favorite parts fiche.
