valve adjustment
I have a 1999 800 Vulcan classic and I have noticed a little vibration from the engine. It has about 10000 miles now and I think I need to go over the valves, has anyone done this them self? Can it be done with the motor in the bike? It looks close on the rear valve cover but I have not attempted it yet. Thanks in advance for any input.

RE: valve adjustment
Hey jw306merc... I just did this procedure for the first time, as a back-yard mechanic and no real motorcycle repair experience... it's no where near as intimidating as I thought it might be. I downloaded a PDF that is exceptionally descriptive and would be happy to answer questions about it, I just did it last night and rode the bike to work this morning...
The short answer: yes, it can be done with the motor in the bike, yes the rear cover is tight but it does come off, and yes, you should attempt it... it's about $300 with tax at my dealer, or 3 hours of your own time for a first attempt... can probably be done it two (I actually have a more detailed post I wrote before I noticed yours, called VN800 valve adjustment).
Let me know if you want that doc I referred to... Or maybe you're already done by now, I just noticed your post is a little over a month old! If so, how did you do?

RE: valve adjustment
Can't figure out how to post attachments in this forum... or if it can be done. Hopefully this link works, let me know how it goes (both the attachment and the valve adjustment!)
