Oil warning light but no ignition or cranking
Hi Guys,
I bought a non running GPX250 today(1995 model).
When I turn the ignition on the oil warning light come on, but no ignition lights.
Engine can't be cranked.
Oil level initially showed very low, then magically shows above full(sight glass is completely covered with oil).
Oil level was low when on side stand, and then "overfilled" when on center stand.(I just moved the bike on neutral during that time around the garage).
Indicator lights are working. Rear brake/park lights are working, and engine oil warning light comes on & that's about it.
Kill switch is on the right position.
Any ideas, help, thoughts, tips advice please.
I would at least like to crank the motor to see if it turns.

I'm pretty sure that oil warning light is an indicator for low oil pressure, not low oil level. Don't have the oil over-filled when trying to start.
Before running off to start the bike with the starter, I'd first want to try turning the motor over manually by hand with a wrench to the crank shaft.
Try pulling in the clutch lever and make sure it's in neutral, then hit the starter button. Check fuses.

I managed to get it cranking.
It's an earth wire that's been disconnected, probably purposely to stop anybody cranking it. I cranked it for few seconds, but I had oil drained already, so the low oil pressure showing now is obvious. I'm just about to fill up with new oil and see it again.
I think you're right, the engine's probably worn out to the point oil pressure is too low.
But, I'm still wondering how is it able to detect that without cranking the engine??!!! I know in cars, low oil pressure is on when the ignition is turned on and goes away when we start the engine or stays on if the oil pressure is low. Can it be some other issue with the lubrication system for the oil warning light to come on?
Thank you in advance for your help, advice.

I managed to get it started.
The carb's flooding, so can't keep the petrol flow going into the carb, but it runs and idles
fine when I give a bit of petrol and cut the flow.
Float issue, I think?
Just trying to do a compression test safely without blowing the CDI.
Not sure, how to do it safely, so I'm googling and trying to find it in the manual.

Thanx. Yeah, it sure has carb issues, 'cos it's been left aside for too long and the tank has lot of internal rust, which surely got sucked into the carb and might have done some clogging of the carb "arteries".
