Congratulations on your new purchase. As far as breaking it it, I say bring the revs about halfway up. Its more important to vary your RPM. I get about 43mpg, but mine isn't broken in yet. It's still better than almost any car. More fun too.

Welcome to the forums, bikes and the world of the open road. Look into the MSF class and like others have said get the right gear and watch out for any and everybody that drives a car because they are all out to get you, even if they don't know it.

welcome to the site. I would say you should get around 40-45 miles per gallon on it. And i totaly agree with deej. Take the course it will teach you some things even if you have ridden before.

Good group of guys here....thanks for the warm welcome. I could not resist getting rid of that mud flap so I got an undertail and Clear Alternatives tail light/turn signals. Also looking at a Two Brothers carbon pipe.

a 250 will get you 75mpg - a 500 will get you 50-60, and 600 will get you about 40-45.

the bike i hope to get next year is a buell zx9 lightning - 1 liter and it gets 60mpg

Hey Falaholic, welcome to the forums. I just traded/sold my 09KLX on an 08ZZR600 for the wife. We should be getting it today hopefully. I'm sure once it's broken in, if you baby it around town and such you should be able to get great milage out of it. I have an 05 Katana 750 which does awesome. Had a ride with a buddy, varying speeds from 50km/h to highway, etc. We didn't push much other than a few tweeks. 108km on 4.7litres. So roughly 4.4litres per 100km which is 53mpg (US) or 64mpg (Imp). So it's quite possible that your 600 which is about 100lbs lighter should be able to do that too. I'm hoping so on ours

Congrats on the new ride in any event, and again, welcome to the forums.

You may want to switch with her, I have never met a Katana I didn't whoop...

Enjoy the new bike man
