A couple of reasons - free place to stay (gotta love family!), Barber Motorsports Musuem, half hour drive to Lynchburg, Tenn (where they make Jack Daniels (yummy!!!)). Plus for someone that has never been any further than southern Maine..........its probably not so bad!
