Default California emissions lawsuit BS!

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/...ng-Lawsuit.php

I understand that we need to protect out planet from global warming and all that but this is stupid! I mean first of all, yes the automakers sell the cars that screw up the planet, but hey the auto companies arent putting guns to peoples heads saying buy this car now or your dead! It pisses me off to see this dumb BS. Notice how all thecompanies they filedagainst, Honda, Nissan, Toyota,DaimlerChrysler, Ford andGM are the richest!! They are justtrying to get money, otherwise they wouldfile suit against every carmaker. If anything I think that the car companies should sueCalifornia and the other ahole states that have the stricter emissions standardsbecause itprobably costs them millions if not billions to make a specific car or model of a car just for these stupid a** states! Then the money the car companies got from suing them could be put to use making new technology to fight car emissions! Next thing you know they will file suit agianst motorcycle companies too. Sorry for my rant but damn, greedy idiots **** me the hell off.[:@]

I'm surprised The state of California isn't trying to sue all of it's citizens for driving their own vehicles! Being from the Midwest, it's hard to grasp just how nutty some Californians are. Here in the Midwest, I think most people tend to be level headed, and capable of seeing both sides of an issue instead of looking at only what fits their agenda.

I understand the importance of protecting our environment and all, but remember that the environmental scientists that say we are in an emergency state of global warming told us back in the 60's and 70's that the earth was in a rapid cool down! According to them, we were about to enter a new ice age, and soon if we didn't do something to stop it. I do believe in global climate change, but I'm not convinced that people are the largest factor of climate change. With, or without humans, the earth warms up and cools down in natural cycles. It always has, and always will.

Of course they have the right to sue. Didn't the gov't sue cigarette companies? Have you ever heard of marketing? Creating a need? Once you become dependant on vehicles it's difficult to start walking again. Car companies have a responsibility to be in compliance with regulations and an obligation to work toward making their vehicles safe. Should we have not removed asbestos? You guys are simple minded fools. The world isn't black and white; all facets of life are interdependent.

Asbestos is still legal, and is still being used to this day in the US.

People need to take PERSONAL responsibility for their actions, not the government.

And, nobody holds a gun to your head and tells you to drive a car. you can always ride a bicycle or walk. Oh, but wait! Toyota made me too lazy to walk! Those bastards!. I guess I have to drive my camery since the keys are in my pocket.

What good will it do to sue theautomotive companies that are ALWAYS working on more clean and economical engines? Cars todaypollute much less due to technological advancesthan they did just five years ago.So, how about we sue the oil companies for supplying us with the fuel we use to pollute. They're just as guilty as the cigarette companies right?

California has some of the tightest pollution standerds in the world, and I don't see the automotive companies making gross violations to these standards either. It just doesn't make sense to hold a car company responsible fora productthat inherently pollutes. The only legal actionI could seeCaliforniabeing able tojustify would be restricting which vehiclestheyallow into their state.

Ahhh! It's great being a simple minded fool! [8D]

In Florida we had emissions testing for a few years. The states EPA did a study, and found no change in air quality. Emissions stations all over the state were closed the next week. We still have air quality monitoring stations, and air quality reports everyday.

Could not agree more.

Lol, I was going to respond to robot-monkey but damn theres no point now. I agree with you once again, lol! Oh and just so you knowCali already has restrictions on what vehicles they allowto be soldin their state. If you have ever looked at a new car buyers guide within the past few years say like car and drivers you will see that some cars have different horsepower ratingsfor the same exactengine. For example the 2006 Hyundai Elantra has a 2.0 inline-4 cylinder engine. It is rated at 132 hp OR 138hp and 133lb-ft OR 136lb-ft. Noweverywhere else they sell cars the engine is rated at 138hp and 136lb-ft. The cars that they sell in Cali are the lower ratings of 132hp and 133lb-ft.
