ZX9? ZX9R? Whats the deal?

Is there a difference between the ZX9 and the ZX9R, or are they the same? I've noticed that kneedraggers.com and a few others don't have the same parts listed but they are both listed as the same year. Sorry if this is a really noob question, but it's been nagging at the back of my mind for awhile now...
