Default Stand up and gas it!

I thought this would be a good read for some in our forum. I have had to do this before and it works. Of course on a hyper bike, you have to watch how much you gas it, because you dont want to go straight up on a wheelie when pulling this manuver.

Excellent advise! Has saved my a** many times on and off road! Think about it, if your on the freeway and something sneeks up on you (say a 4x4 block of wood) if you can not swerve and make the mistake to drill the brake your forks compress and when you hit that 4x4 you will become airborne. How airborne depends on how much your suspension can soak up. If you gas it your forks will decompress if only a little but will soak up alot of the initial hit, (then this is where the standing comes into play) The rear is going to kick pretty hard when it hits the object but as long as your standing up and still on the throttle will in most cases it will follow the foreward momentum and stay inline with the front.

I just remembered, when I had my 03 KX250 my girlfriend and I went riding our dirt bikes. I don't remember if she wrecked or her bike broke down but I was hauling a** back to the truck to go pick her and the bike up when in sixth gear wide open I hit a rock sticking out of the middle of the road about five inches, I was already standing up and was full throttle so there was not much I could do. The bike got completely airborne about two feet, bent my rim and broke a couple of spokes. I rode it out but I was pissed!

If only this worked with cars that pull out infront of us....

chruyp, good advice there. although if you ride off road (hard) regularly i think that technique becomes instinctive.

Thats how i get over everything, When it doubt gas it out!!!! When we had our KLX meet in NJ There was one guy that was going a little faster than he thought and didn't expect this small jump and certainly didn't expect this huge puddle where he was gonna land, herd him go WOT and when he landed in the puddle he was out of it before the water was able to settle back.... was crazy, but the momentum of the bike will carry you through a lot.
