Putting KawiKathy To Work
Never used many battery powered hammer drills that were great, but Bosch battery drills have come to be my favorite after going through just about every other brand
LOL.....Bosch and Metabo make excellent cordless hammer drills but expect to pay almost 5 bills for one.I have a Bosch 28 volt Li-Ion that i use at work and it is a manly piece.I got mine for about 475$ but i use it all the time for everything that i don't want to have an air hose attached to.The Metabo pieces are very, very nice as well but very expensinse just the same.with good bits they will drill granite with no problem but it is all in the bits being used.you are right that concrete seems like warm butter though compared to the granite.
Yep, the Bosch Litheon 36V SDS Plus is the preferred drill for rock climbers but the sucker is around $1200. Don't drill that often to justify it. But you're right, buying the best drill bit is half of making the hole!
Or, like they used in the golden age of rock climbing in Yosemite and us cheapies still use - no batteries necessary just plenty of Tylenol and Tequila afterwards:

Honestly the lighter (18-28)volt Litheon ones aren't that bad price wise and i use mine for everything! I normally use it for drilling oak boards for trailer decks which is why i bought it......screw the air hose and the noise of my 1/2" air drill from MAC tools......I can get alot of 7/8" countersinks and 3/8" woodhog holes done with it before swapping batteries.prolly 40 or 50 holes before a battery swap....and the time it takes me to drill the next 40 or 50 my other battery is always charged. Now i know i really don't need a sds hammer for this but it always works well with the changeable chuck for the drill.....it is kind of a jack of all trades.
