My mantra on deer...is that if I see one...there are likely two more very close.

ID^, I'm guessing your buddy came through (physically) OK? I bet his eyes got as big as pancakes when he saw that herd in front of him. Geez.

Don't get to run into many Deer in my side of town. I see skunks and possums all the time though.

It's a hell of a story. North Idaho, at night, slowing from triple digits into the low 90s when he hit. Had to pull one out from between the forks. No headlight now. Oil leak. Follows a guy to town and oil is spraying all over his face shield. Hotel owner freaks out seeing deer gut remains covering his jacket. It just gets better. Battered and bruised, but lived through it.

Lymphoma cancer just about took him away late winter of 2012 as I was recovering from fractured femur. Then August last year he lays 'er down in the forest roads and busts up his leg. One tough **** wild man with a heart of gold he is. Nice as can be. Here's a report of a ride we did together (Jordan Craters): http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=744301
He's the guy on the GS falling down in the mud towards the end of the ride.

Speed makes little difference with deer at times. One friend got wiped off his DRz400 by a deer a few years back. Not speeding or anything - just idiot deer. My brother had a friend who actually came to a total stop in an old Lincoln Town Car - dumb deer ran into the back door anyway!
