Hey great job getting out - you ARE smart! Sounds kinda like he was hoping for you to take care of him, bail him out of trouble, and pay the bills. No one needs that kind of baggage. Just don't let his sob story influence you to take him back. Best thing now is to stay away and meet someone new who will pull their weight and that you'll WANT to be with rather than guilt you into it.
