Finger Mullet's Odyssey....My First Computer Build

Building my first puter, just thought I would share, wish me luck.

5/8/2009 1pm

Parts arrived today...time to start.

Background:

I needed a new computer for my new side business....environmental software development.....the 5 year old, $499 at the time of purchase, machine just wasn't cutting it.

What I need.... a Business only machine that can develop multi threaded C# applications with way serious SQL queries and portable if possible....and no laptop currently made in a reasonable price range will cut it.

I specified a new desktop machine at Dell....$3,450

F' that, I'll build one.....I hope :D

What I Bought:

Budget $1k

Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor

ASUS Rampage II GENE LGA 1366 Intel X58 uATX Intel Motherboard

OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory

CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

SAPPHIRE 100265HDMI Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM (A total of Two set up in raid 0)

LITE-ON 22X DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model iHAS222-06 - OEM

3 each - OKGEAR 18" SATA II Cable Model GC18ARM12

Total Cost at New Egg = $ 993.89 ....yeah I cut it close....but waaaaaaay cheaper than a mfg unit, provided I can put it together and make it work.
