+1
I keep hearing all the stuff on the news and from other people saying, they should do this why dont they do that, try this it will work. I just have to remind myself that there are people working on the problem who are just as smart as me and they cant get it to work...

my idea was a big cork shaped piece of concrete with rubber gasket around it....

and i always read the local papers when im bored at work (eagle tribune, new york post, ny times, union leader, boston herald, bos globe) and according to them this is a massive travesty and the whole south shore had a coating like lead on it, and so far the only attempts to stop it have been a giant concrete box and a bunch of shredded tires and sand to plug the hole...

The amount of **** that is going to go on after this is going to be brutal. The Obama camp have gone 'left' with the offshore stuff, and when they're done with that look out for those of you in the land game (like myself). They're going to turn their rage onto the shale markets since the risk of damaging drinking water lies in there (frac job going south and breaching the water tables). all of a sudden we can drill in the shales anymore

supply is going to drop quite rapidly my friends.

Yeah the media is seriously overemphazising the seriousness of this oil spill. Maybe what I saw was the early effects of what is to come but as of now my opinion has been changed.

To answer your question stellar, yes I will be working with the spill. I applied to work with an expired HAZMAT 40 and they will not allow me to work in the field without a current HAZMAT 40. The next round of classes start in two weeks, so I will be recertifying then. If I didn't have to have my practicals in I could recertify in 8 hours, but since it has been more than a year since my certification expired, I have to go through field practicals again. After that, its to the Gulf for me! I really hope I don't get stuck in LA. I have a severe dislike for that state because it is so crappy over there. I hope I get assigned to Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Perdido Key areas.

These buttholes have the technology to stop this leak immediately if they want to but they would rather maintain the integrity of the well than to seal it for good. Additionally, I have not been satisfied with the lack of action and utilization of resources by BP or our government. I do not think our government has taken enough action to safeguard our local environment and economies. The only thing that I can figure as to why the United States has taken lack of action in this matter is that there is no regulation by the United States on international waters. I have the confidence that this will be stopped and the damage will be minimalized as much as possible. I just can not forsee the spill going from where the leak is now all the way up the Atlantic. I think that projection is a little extreme.

Good for you for joining that cause. Alot of people bitch and moan about it but don't actually do anything about it. Since I can't do anything about it, I don't say anything

I will shed some info on this for you, at least what I've learned in through the industry grapevine. From what I understand the gov't hasn't taken over of it just YET (and I emphasize YET) is because BP, like you said, has the capability of getting it under control more so than the gov't. Once they do however, be prepared to see tons of rules slapped all over the place so much that it will be less attractive to do work out there. They did it with alot of the shallow ****, which forced business deeper. I don't think BP is wasting much time to save the well, since the damage control is going to present a much bigger bill the longer they wait.

Our alberta gov't did some bull**** up here too getting involved. They imposed a royalty on the wells drilled here that eventually made most guys take their business to the neighboring provinces of British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Oops. They learned their lesson a little and effed off with some of the royalties, but it put alot of people out of work.

Rarely is it good when the gov't, (who really hasn't an effing clue about the industry they're meddling with) gets involved. I think the longer they stay out of it the better.

End rant.

It really depends on how far offshore the spill site is. I believe a country's juristiction extends 50 or so miles into the water (dont quote me on this...im a shipbuilder & stay onshore lol). They have standards and procedures they were not going by. Most every accident is cause by lack of/not following/or improper training on procedures.

I read where a similar spill happened off the coast of austraila that took 10 weeks to fully stop the spill. We are in week 7....so who knows......

All I know is Haliburton can suck on my ***** too because it is their crappy concrete that wont hold up to the pressure of the wells. I a. going to make a screw you Haliburton sticker too!

Tony Hayward needs to stfu. He wanta his life back....pffftt! We dont give a flying ffff about your life Tony. We want our lives back!

There were actually reports that they didn't allow enough time for the cement to set before doing their full pressure tests (big no no, you can't do a proper pressure test without A) allowing cement to set and B) using the intended testing pressure)

I think we'll find there were alot of human negligence errors

Unfortunately they only set up the minimum for procedures and developed untested contingency plans. But I guess you cant plan for everything...
