Everyone please be careful
Tina, I hope your friend pulls through. My prayers go out to him and his family & friends. I hope they catch the right driver - he doesn't deserve to be free.
Things like this help you to be more aware of your surroundings and will help make your ride a lot safer. Don't let it get you freaked out - just use it to watch and anticipate what someone else may do - that way you are somewhat prepared for the unexpected.

The more I thought about the accident the more I realized that I could have prevented it if I had been being a little more defensive. I was ridding while being very tired and it had bee about a 12 hour day, all I was thinking about was getting home and hitting the couch. I almost made it, the accident happened about 3 miles from my home of a 50 mile trip.
While in the left lane of two lane traffic I was among a group of cagers that was traveling faster than the right lane do to a very slow big rig. If I had been thinking about my surroundings I should have been in the far left side of my lane anticipating that someone might try to whip out and enter my lane.
A lot of our accidents are preventable and I am not blaming the rider her but in my case if I had had smarter lane position I may have not been involved in an accident that day. Probably would have smashed his mirror off for almost hitting me though. Ha Ha.
Ride safe and live by Blue birds advice.
