Default Acetone For Better Mileage...

I know a lot of you have heard and possibly experimented with using 2 oz. of acetone to 10 gallons of gas for improved mileage and performance - Seems to be a lot more information, both pro and con on the web since gas sky rocketed. I recently read one of these articles at http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directo..._Fuel_Additive.

and on AutoBlog.com at http://www.autoblog.com/2005/09/24/a...e-gas-mileage/

Do you have any feedback on adding acetone to your tank of gas?

I haven't tried it myself.... But to post an opinion, it would probably help in older cars, only because of the increased flammability, reducing spark knock, detonation, etc.... And it would probably clean out the carbs, injectors, carbon off the vavles. Etc....

On those types of cars where acetone might help, berryman b12 or any good carb/injector cleaner would probably do the same thing on a short term testing basis. IMO anyway.

I think no matter what you add to your gas, unless it cleans out the motor ( carbon, deposts, sludge, etc ) your car would still get close to the same mileage because nothing in the actual carb/ fuel injection circuit is being changed. The same amount of air and the same amount of fuel is going to pump thru the carbs unless you change the jetting in the carb, etc..

You can also change your driving habits to save gas, so called Hypermiling.

and engine oil with low-kinematic viscosity[1] referred to as low "weight" motor oil, which is filled just to the low-level mark

yeah.... lets increase our effiency by 2%, then pay $10,000 in 2 years to replace your seized block[sm=bangbang.gif]
