I am having a problem with my 2000 ZX900E-1 Ninja's headlights (yeah, what else is new?). Trying to troubleshoot all the possibilities so as to get the bloody $#^%&*@! headlights operable again! At any rate, the 2000 ZX900E-1 (US) wiring schematic diagram shows what is labeled as a 20 AMP fuse somewhere up in front, presumably near the twin headlamp relays, but I cannot for the life of me find a 20 AMP fuse up there. Now correct me if I am wrong (or just dense), but the fuse junction box supposedly has a headlamp relay IN the fuse box circuitry, as well as a relay for each headlight in front (back of the instrument panel). Additionally, there is a 10 AMP headlamp fuse in the junction box itself. But the wiring schematic also shows this 20 AMP fuse up near the headlamps. My question is WHERE?
I've tried three separate fuse junction boxes on my bike (under the seat), in the event that the headlight relay built into the fuse box is faulty, but none of them resolved the problem, so I'm making a reasonable assumption that the fuse block isn't the problem. A circuit tester shows me that there is juice getting to the headlight bulb sockets (both of them), and yet the headlights still refuse to shine when the ignition switch is turned on (or after the engine has started). No headlights at all...zero...ZIP!
OK, that leads me back to the twin headlight relays up front (which I am going to assume are fine, since it's unlikely that both of them would be faulty simultaneously) OR that impossible-to-find 20 AMP fuse that the wiring schematic shows somewhere in the circuit The 20 Amp fuse in question is shown in the lower-left, between the RH/LH turnsignal bulbs and the horn. Where is it on the bike!
, up front! Help! I really don't want to put my otherwise faithful SAKI out of its misery with a pistol shot! [NOTE: to the FBI agents who are monitoring EVERYTHING these days, the 'pistol shot' remark is allegorical and figurative; I am NOT a two-wheeled terrorist!.]
Hi. It's me, the guy who ends up answering his own questions... I found the 'missing' 20 AMP fuse under the seat; sure enough, it comes directly off the battery (large white wire) and connects to a BLK/WHT wire on the other side of the fuse, that runs up to the front through the frame and connects with the headlight relays. It appears to be fine (no breaks in the fuse filament), so that leaves me back where I started with no headlights and no clue... [The schematic suggested that, by placement on the schematic, the fuse was up near the front, when it is actually under the seat near the battery. More learning curve!]
