Bike died on the way home today. Looked down and had no power at all. Thought it might of been that battery but it's got a full charge on it. Any thoughts??

I'll let you know when I find out on my daughters 01 ZX7. There is a main fuse under the seat, its a 30 amp and you can access it by unsnapping the starter relay and lifting the relay plug out of the way, then you will see the 30A fuse. On the wiring diagram, the next thing in line is the keyswitch.

Update, The 30 amp fuse was blown. Repleced it and attempted to put it back together. Blew the fuse again.

then you have a direct short. Once that fuse blows you dont have any fuel pump or voltage to the coils. Does it blow the fust with the keyswitch on or off?

If it blows it with the switch off, then you can isolate the short to the harness just up to the keyswitch. But if it only blows once the switch is turned on you have a lot to check. Have you done any mods recently, or had your tank off, or fairings off??

Tried it again, and she fired right up. I think the key was on when i tried it the last time or something was touching some where.

fixed for good then? you better go buy a little pack of those fuses and stick them under your seat. They are the same ones you can get at Kragens

5 pack for 2.99

Either something is going out and over amping, or you have a harness/connection issue happening. I would not trust your ride.

amen. like ted said.. don't trust it. the bike only pulls 15 amps with EVERY single electrical thing on. the alternator makes 30.7 A @ 6000rpm, but the battery would have to literally be dead shorted to pull that kinda current from the alternator.

installing a fuse under load on these bikes will not pop it.

as jzanutto (i'll assume a supra fan from the letters?) said, determine whether the fuse blow while the key is off.. the main connector for my keyswitch is melted due to it just being plain underengineered. they're all like that.

i had a "things to know about your 7-R list, but i think it's gone.. i'll search and repost if need be.
these bikes make me (as a bike mechanics and electrical engineer) sick with their wiring setup. it's grossly smaller than when it should be. the put ALL the bikes power thru the (underrated) keyswitch. lose the white or brown wire and your bike's a paperweight.

What works to get it started up the first time? Key wiggle in the switch,,,,? Pressing the starter button a certain direction? etc
