help... fan not working
hey, how can I find out what fan motor assembly is compatible with my 94 zx750L? I noticed it wasn't working an the bike heats up in traffic. A new one is over 400 bucks so I'm going to look at used an think I will have a better chance if I knew what years would work. thanks in advance

RE: help... fan not working
Electric motors are extremely reliable and dont fail often. Are you sure its the Motor Assembly? My guess would be the temp switch or the wiring, Your manual should have a proceedure for testing it, I dont have mine in front of me right now. (in class) Another common problem is an air bubble can develop in the cooling system around the switch, causing it to not register the proper temperature and trip the switch.
If it is the motor, search for bike microfiche and check the fiche for your bike.

RE: help... fan not working
ya check the fuse right off the batt?
also does the motor spin by hand?
sometimes, the bikes temp sensor will not register, and the plastic fan blades melt. then when the temp switch finally does actuate, the motor is locked up and pops the fuse.
meter the fan's coil. you get a resistance, then you're probably good. or, jump 12V right to the fan connector to 100% rule out the fan motor being crap.
better yet....
yes.. 4 star test here!!!
instead of that.....
unplug the leads running to the temp switch on the radiator.. touch them together, or somehow connect them together. if the fan comes on, IT IS 100% the switch that is not working..
if the fan does not come on, then it could be a fuse, connection, fried wire..
then you'll hafta meter it for 12V everywhere.. and trace wires and all that jazz..
good luck, and welcome to KF!
