all the heat rating is on a plug is how long the porcelin insulation holding the electrode is. the colder the plug, (i think) the shorter the insulation, letting the electrode run cooler being that the insulation is the heatsink as well.. the hotter it is, the longer the insulation is.

i might have that backwards tho, but i think i'm right.. i KNOW it has something to do with the insulation length tho..

i'd look at the resistance values again, and look at the solder joints..
you said you replcaed a diode? that can make alot of difference in how it'll work. theres ALOT of different diodes, Fwd bias voltages, breakdown voltages, types.. theres alot..lol

whats the diode do? is it a switching diode to an SCR gate? is it just a little zener diode blocking backfeed to another supply circuit?

check and recheck you have the right coils i was looking for some accel ciols for my ZX7R and came across a very interesting link http://www.motorcycleadventuremap.com/accel.htm after reading this and checking with my dealer they weren't a 100% sure witch ones i needed either. good luck.
