Default coils or carbs?

Recently I purchased a 2001 500r with 1590 miles on the clock. Unfortunately it appears that the bike has sat most of its life. The bike would not idle when I purchased it. I pulled the carbs and gave them a badly needed cleaning and bam! It ran and idled great! Now I have another problem. In the mornings when it is cool and damp it will not hit a lick. It just turns over and over. I can go out later after the outside temp rises, and it fires right up. Also at cruising speed at around 5-7k rpm it misfires. I have replaced plugs snd changed oil recently? Any suggestions?

Welcome, cougar. What do the plugs look like? Might check for corrosion at the various connections, as well as ground, too. You're right about "unfortunate" when bikes (or cars, etc.) sit around. Perhaps previous owner parked it because of the same issue and didn't have a VALUABLE RESOURCE like this forum! Perhaps the main jets might be off just a tick, if someone installed an aftermarket exhaust and didn't properly adjust the mix. Give us more details.
Glad to have you aboard. Gear up; stay safe.

I assume you are using the choke

Check all the rubber for rotting or cracks, the tubes can die pretty quick when it sits.
