Default zx6r oil issues

hi all, new to the forum. sorry to come straight in with a problem. i have a zx6r 97 f3 model and all was well until the oil and filter was changed. when the bike is fired up the oil light stays on and the oil level in the inspection window does'nt change which leads me to believe there is no circulation. there is a little getting round as when i took the oil filter back off to check there was oil in that. tried putting the old filter on and still no joy. is there any way to prime the system or do i have problems elsewhere? like i said, was fine before and all i've done is changed oil and filter. i would be very gratefull for any suggestions or ideas, cheers - neil

Do you remember how much oil you put in? Should be about 3.5 quarts. When you are looking at the oil inspection window, is the bike level/leaning cold/warm? Are the valves making a very loud (louder than normal) ticking noise like there is no oil?

How many miles on the bike?

Oh yeah, welcome to the boards!

sorted now, someone said to loosen oil filter and start engine until oil comes out, then tighten back up and start engine again. it worked! thanks for the reply anyway

I always fill the oilfiter with oil then install it. This way there is less time the oil passages are empty.
