Default Won't start in 1st

My cousin just bought an 05 636 and for some reason it won't start in 1st gear. I have an 05 too so i know it starts in 1st. The bike has a yoshimura slipon with a muzzy fix for the FI light, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Do any of you guys out there have any ideas on what the problem could be.

I don't think it's supposed to. I'vedropped a bike because I forgot and left it in gear when I started it. Not fun. It willalsokill the engineif the kickstand is left down when you put it in gear (maybe he was leaving the kickstand down too?).Is your bike new? Maybe that feature was turned off on yours. I sold my bike so I can't verify any of this, sorry.

These rides will start with the clutch pulled in while in 1st gear.

Thats the problem. My cousins 05 636 does NOT start in 1st gear with the kick stand up and the clutch pulled in. I also own a 636 so i know the bike is suppose to start not only in nuetral but also in 1st gear because my bike does. My cousins purchased this bike today and itisnt final untill monday when the previous owner brings the title over, soI am trying to find out the cause of the problem before then.

Sounds like a clutch switch issue ie loose connection or corrosion. Try electrical contact cleaner to see how that does.

1+ Look at the safety switch at the clutch lever. With the clutch in, kickstand up or down, it should start in any gear.
