Default Vortex Sliders installed 06 636 - PICS

well i finally got brave enough to install these babies on my baby. i found a few things that may help those who plan to install in the future.

1) left side base couldnt be properly torqued because the hex socket i used on the wrench was too short to reach all the way in base. had to guess with a t-handle hex
2) dont have a few beers before working the dremel tool. a steady hand is key. you could end up with a few unsightly streaks up your faring.
3) use coarser grit barrel. finer will do more melting that grinding.
4) use low setting on the dremel and go from top to bottom for shaping.
5) the ole hammer and flathead screwdriver trick worked for getting the lock nut loose. again. re-torqing is almost impossible.
6) cut a little then check the fit. then cut again. remove small amounts once you get the bolt clear(left side)

i was pretty happy with the look. my friend ended up taking the vortex back for his new cbr1000 and going with lockhart philips. vortex looks funny on his bike.
does anybody know the bolt size on the swing arm slider location. i bought some lockhart philips swing arm sliders but they were the wrong size. then the guy at the parts counter exchanged them for some cool looking gold color STM swingarm buttons. they are so small i doubt they are as effective as the lockharts.

anyhow..here are the pics.

the right side torqued up nicely to 33 ft lbs with a standard socket with allen head. the left side i couldnt get that socket all the way in. so i guessed with a t handle allen wrench 33 ft lbs by how much it took me to torque the other side. the bolts in question hold the engine to your frame i think. i am going to try and find a longer socket allen. i gave it enough pressure so i dont think my engine will fall out. i will keep an eye on the bolt by marking it to make sure it is not moving.

dont forget. when you buy the vortex bases you have to buy 2 pucks. my pucks were sold seperately.
