I saw this guy today on CBR (I think it was a 600, but that's beside the point). Not only was the guy wearing shorts and a T-shirt. This idiot had what looked like can be no older than a 5 or maybe at best a 6 year old on the back, wearing an adult sized helmet also with shorts and a T-shirt. Now I've seen guys wearing tank-tops, no shirt, shorts, sandels or maybe have a girl on the back with no gear or in shorts herself, but this takes the cake. It's one thing, if you're an adult and you knowingly take this risk, but I can't image someone not only allowing a kid of this age on the back of a street bike, but to do so with absolutely NO gear.
Now I don't know his situation. I don't know whether this was his son, brother, nephew, or neighbor who he wanted to take fora quick ride up the street and back, but quick trip or not, there's no excuse for this. Of course he wasn't brain dead enough to be riding reckless or anything like that, but this guy was on a main street right outside a residential community with intersections, traffic lights and other cars. I'm not even going to go into the injuries this kid could face if he had gone down.
I was in the next lane two cars behind him at a traffic signal. I don't know why the hell I didn't say anything. I should have pulled up beside him and told him to pull his *** over. But I didn't, I sat this on my bike with my mouthwideopen and let him ride off. Hours later, now at home, I'm kicking myself for not doing something!
Anyway guys, I'm pretty sure no one here would do something like this. But please folks, wear gear yourselves and if you're girl is going to ride on the back, buy her some good gear too. Even in the summer heat, please just do it.

You're right. I have aa almost 5 year old son and I just bought him a helmet. He can reach the pegs so he's LEGAL to take as a passenger but I am a little hessitant. I will have to get him gloves, jacket and probably the safety belt when I give him a ride. I have put him in front of me and gone up my driveway and putted in front of my house at idle but even that isn't a good idea. I think I'm just putting it off as long as I can but one of these days I'll have to take him for a ride.
I think it's better that he get used to riding as a passengerand learning from me than when he get's his own bike and learns from his young friends who may not have as much sense or experience. My 13 year old is a good passenger and will be a good rider when he's old enough however he has shown some interest for racing although he took a good spill off his bicycle the other day. I guess now I understand why my dad didn't want me to get a bike even though he had ridden also.

That squid is just insane though. Not having gear yourself is bad enough, but an extremly young passenger, with no gear and a helmet that could cause more injury than if not wearing anything at all. Was the rider wearing a helmet?
yeah, at least protect your children. when i was young, my dad would never let me ride on the back of his bike without wearing pants...stupid squids...i hate em...unfortunately though...because of the weather in southern california...we get them ALL THE TIME!!!
That guy is a dumb ***- if he's going to take a passenger- at least, THE VERY LEAST get them a helmet that fits!!
I take my GF on the back once in a while-she always wears pants and a full face helmet... even then I feel sketchy- especially if I have to quickly maneuver .... it's harder with a passenger

Ive a friend ask if she could have a ride on my bike a few times but I always turn her down because I don't have spare gear for an extra person. I can't see leting a kid ride with you with no gear.
