Default Stealership

Alright, here goes.....I've got a 98 zx6r. Been having trouble with it idling really high like the choke is stuck on. Really sucks to ride. I also need a new clutch, and there's a weird "knocking" noise coming from below. The last time I tried to fire it up, nothing. So I figured I'd take it to the dealership where I got it and see what's up. The guy calls me a little while ago and says it needs a new battery, plugs, and carbs cleaned before they can even diagnose any of the other problems......$400! Holy ****. Is this dude totally crazy or what? These sound like things I could do at home with a little help. Another problem is the place is 3 hours away and it cost me $100 to get it there. WTF? Any suggestions?

amen.

if anything those prices are WAY higher than what they need to be! you can get everything going good for cheap, bro.

i use brakleen for my carb rebuilds. that like, 3 bucks or so.1 can should work. and yeah, it's about 15-20 minutes a carb for me, but then again, i've done tons of different carbs, 100 times. i'd charge $75-100 for a full rebuild on someones bike tho.. so you'll save some cash there.i go for $25 a carb if i don't know them, and $20 if i do, usually, or if its someone off of here. but thats for a FULL disassemble/clean/reinstall/sync as well.

sparkies...depends on what you get i guess.. i'm cheap, nd since i haven't done the turbo yet.. i get the stock cross-referenced repalcements from auto zone..

battery can be cheap too..

i may have a clutch kit for that bike at my shop. i gotta check and see if it'll work for your bike first tho, so let me gaurantee that..

whats the noise you hear? where, roughly, is it at and when does it happen? that could be a very bad thing, or someithng simple.

Question. If the bike starts right up, why think about the battery?

star with the carbs, should take you about an hour and it will make a major difference if they are clogged up or varnished
