Default QUESTION ON BREAKING IN A 07 ZX6R

I FINALLY BOUGHT A 2007 KAWASAKI NINJA ZX6R AFTER A YEAR OF WANTING A BIKE. THIS IS MY FIRST BIKE EVER. WELL MY QUESTION IS IF I REALLY NEED TO KEEP THE RPM LOW DURRING THE BREAK IN TIME. SOME PEOPLE SAY I HAVE TO WHILE OTHERS SUCH AS THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER SAY I DONT NEED TO . JUST TO DRIVE IT AS ANY OTHER BIKE. IVE BEEN TRYING TO KEEP IT BETWEEN 3-6 RPM BUT AT TIMES I GO UP TO 8-9 IN ORDER TO KEEP UP WITH SOME FRIENDS. WILL I DAMAGE THE BIKE? I HAVE ONLY PUT 100 MILES ON THE BIKE SO FAR.

hmm, from the sounds of it, you have done enough. Now change the oil. Then have fun.

If you have to take it to the dealer for warranty work, just be sure to tell them that you followed the Manufacturer recommended Break-In procedure. Change the oil now.

You can go 3-5K before changing oil & filter. 5-7K if you run full syntheic. The harder you ride, the sooner you should change it. Also change it more often when the bike has low miles. Put a magnet on your drain plug and even on your oil filter to attract the lose metal particles floatingin your oil. I have those super magnets on my drain plug & around my filter. It also works great as a trigger for the stop light road sensors.

My philosophy on breaking in motors isto do it. It's a little bit of aggravation to do it right but it kind of gives you that 'warm fuzzy' feeling. A lot of mechanics today say that the engines are so advance that breaking time is not needed. My dad is an old school mechanic and always believes in breaking in a motor so I guess I'm a little bias.

I remember breaking in my 03 636... I musta rode it the back and forth tothe beachon the back roadsfor a week straight to break it in properly but it was worth it because as soon as I hit that mileage it was awesome opening her up... it was like dating someone who was teasing you and then when they stop teasing you it's GREAT!!!

Just my opinion, although the stealership always knows what they're talking about... [sm=icon_beat.gif]
