Just got back from working abroad and got my 98 ZX6 from the back of my dads garage- not started for 7 years.

Am looking for a bit of advice on how to go about getting it ready to start so I dont do any permenant damage.

OK

Got all the fairings off and plugs out. Now the fun starts??

I put about 10ml of diesel into each plug hole as I was advised and let it soak for a day in case any of the rings were seized however when I put the diesel in cylinder 2 it started to leak out of the exhaust manifold from this cylinder. In addition after a few minutes I could also see some evidence of seepage around the gearbox cover - any ideas???

Also after a day I tried to rock the bike backwards and forwards whilst in gear but it felt like it just stopped. In fact pushing it forward the back tyre let go without turning. My concern is that this indicates a seizure somewhere in the engine.

So in summary my questions are:
1 Should I be able to push the bike forward whilst in first gear and have some kind of turn on the engine?
2 Should I be worried about the diesel running through and coming out of the exhaust manifold and the gearbox cover?

Any advice appreciated.

I like using diesel because of the oil in the mix. Cheap to get as well
soak up and lubs at the same time.
I would recommend draining the oil of any impurities and diesel and going back to your manuals basics
A "seizure" and the engine would not turn over. Lock up the rear, etc. Sounds like that one cylinder may have some compression left in it.

this is just my opinion but shouldent you put it in a high gear like 5th and rock it? wouldent 1st be really hard to turn the motor?

option #2 buy a 05-08 zzr600 motor off e-bay

The diesel leakage from the exhaust port is actually a water drain for the spark plug cavity area. When you poured the diesel down the plug holes, some went through the drain. Usually second gear will help turn the motor over. Make sure to clean the carbs. If there was any fuel in the tank or carbs, be ready to do some serious dis-assembling & cleaning. Might need new o-rings for the fuel shut-off valve. Get some Berryman Carb Dip and soak your jets etc.
